The sustainable rural complex is located in a small village called Labrada, between A Pontenova (Lugo) and Taramundi (Asturias). It is right in the heart of the popular Río Eo, Oscos and the Tierra de Burón Biosphere Reserve, which was recognised by UNESCO in 2007.
The Eo Estuary is a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and a Protected Birdlife Reserve (zona de especial protección para las aves, ZEPA).
This region not only boasts a much-valued, high-quality culinary heritage, but it is also home to ancient traditions, such as artisan knife making.
It is worth visiting the various foundries, smiths and forges to find out what life was like in this privileged area in past centuries.
The Red Natura is a network of natural spaces that are protected at a European level and which include some of the continent’s most typical habitats.
The aim of the Red Natura is to promote ecologically sustainable uses of natural resources without damaging the natural environment. The network aims to foster a socio-economic development model that is compatible with nature conservation, or rather, a sustainable development model. It also strives to protect the most significant examples of biodiversity at a European level.
Our community is home to a large number of natural habitats, with an incredibly diverse range of flora and fauna. The protected space covers 4,828 hectares, which extend over the municipalities of A Pontenova, A Fonsagrada and Ribera de Piquín. It was included in the Red Natura in 2001 and is fundamental in preserving an endangered ecosystem, which is made up of chestnut and oak forests with numerous streams that help to maintain diverse species of flora, including heather, alder forests, and ash, and of fauna, including muskrats, otters, bats, and birds such goshawks and sparrowhawks.
